Having started out my career as a traditional draughtsman, I have always had a passion for technical drawing and design. Over the years I had progressed and developed where I eventually became an engineer, but my passion for drawing always stayed with me.
Having grown up in Johannesburg, South Africa, I couldn’t help but notice how historical and heritage buildings were being neglected and were being vandalised and destroyed. I felt that one way of preserving them (for my own satisfaction) was to start capturing them in a way that I knew best, through an architectural sketch or technical drawing.
I eventually moved out of the city to a small coastal town where I started observing and sketching the buildings around me, particularly lighthouses and historical buildings. (My sketches are featured in the South African Built Environment website: artefacts.co.za)
I have recently moved to England and am astounded by all of the historic and heritage buildings and how well they have been preserved. I hope that I can contribute to the preservation of these buildings through my sketches sometime in the future.
