Trained originally as an architect, I have spent the last 20 years working in architectural visualisation for some of the UK’s most high-profile architectural firms.

I admire the possibilities that computers have enabled for design, as well as for presentation. And yet… I have often had that niggling feeling at the back of my mind: CGI isn’t the most appropriate medium for everything – sometimes it’s too much. Sometimes less is more. This led me to reappraise and rediscover more traditional, looser drawing methods.

My recent work is a hybrid of digital and analogue techniques. It intentionally blurs the line between the graphics tablet and real watercolour, between 2D and 3D, between hand sketches and computer-rendered material. Ultimately, I assemble everything digitally, for reasons of speed, editability, and flexibility. I have developed robust workflows that enable this, giving quick, amendable results while retaining the best of both worlds.
