I’m an architect and artist. I’ve been a registered UK architect since 1990 but drawing and painting has been a natural gift and lifelong passion. At university this ability shone through in all my work such that I was awarded high pass in diploma portfolio, distinction in thesis and the RIBA 1989 Southern Region Prize.

Although I can turn my hand to most mediums, I feel most at ease with pencil/pen drawings on paper or acrylic paintings on canvas. Although time consuming paintings are very rewarding to both create and enjoy, a central attribute of quick simple drawing that I cherish is its ability to help others explore and understand 3 dimensional spaces – whether they be real or imagined. I gain most joy from these light touch un-mannered artworks.

In parallel with my professional career, I’m evolving my artwork such that I can make it my focus and ‘occupation’ to take on commissions and plan exhibitions of my artwork when I retire from the architectural work place. I see a progression of topic ahead of me from the built environment, to landscape and then ultimately portraiture. My membership of the SAI is thus an exciting part of my strategy to expand my involvement in the art in architecture.
