I was elected to membership of there Society of Architectural Illustrators in the early 1980’s but, regrettably, allowed my membership to lapse as I chose to concentrate on my teaching commitments at the time. As I no longer have full-time teaching responsibilities I would now like to re-apply for membership as I am able to engage more with the illustration process and, hopefully, with fellow architectural illustrators and possibly now contribute to the work of the Society of Architectural Illustrators.
I work primarily in watercolour and record the urban environment, chiefly for publication in instructional books – these include Drawing and Painting Architecture and the Watercolour Artist’s Index of the Urban Landscape (both David and Charles publications). I have a particular interest in urban textures and always seek the granular detail found in brick, stone and plaster, especially in the more derelict parts of towns and cities.
As the majority of my work is for publication, it is not often exhibited, although earlier in my career the Bury St.Edmunds Art Gallery in Suffolk did show the original illustrations for my book Drawing Traditional Buildings (B.T.Batsford). I have had work shown at the Mall Galleries in London when working with the Society of Graphic Artists. I have contributed articles for Traditional Homes magazine along with The Artist, and the Artist’s and Illustrator’s Magazines.
